SSFTA Skills Clinic - 5/4/14

Join the SSFTA on Sunday, May 4, 2014, for an all level skill clinic! Bob Sughrue will have our mini skills course set up in the parking lot for riders to practice getting their front wheels off the ground to avoid going over the bars on the trails. There will also boards placed throughout the course to practice riding in a straight line which comes in handy with most of the out of town rides we do.  Bob will have riders in the parking lot for about an hour; after which time he will lead any riders who would like to test their skills on a beginner skills ride through the foothills.

All the fun isn’t just for our beginner and novice riders! Mark Bledsoe will be leading an intermediate skills clinic and ride in the parking lot at the same time. Learn how to navigate steep descents, keep your balance on rough trails, and practice staying upright while riding through sand.  If you would like to improve your bike handling skills or pick up some new skills, you won’t want to miss this!

Edwards Ride Update - 4/26/14

There is a high wind advisory at Edwards Air Force Base for Saturday. The wind speed will be around 20 knots at the base and according to our ride leader, Steve, 20 knots is KNOT fun to ride through in the middle of a desert. We will wait until noon on Friday to make a decision to postpone this ride. In the event the ride is postponed, Steve invited our group (no limit on amount of riders) to go ride in Tehachipi where the weather will be much more friendly.

We will keep everyone up to speed on this long awaited ride.

New Club Hats

It’s going to get hot and sunny very soon, so you better order a few SSFTA club hats! Orders can be placed on our website! Hats come in khaki, navy blue, royal blue, and black and are only $20 each0! We will be submitting our complete order once we have 20 hats ordered or at the end of April, which ever occurs first. We are currently working on a women’s hat and will be announcing the preorder as soon as we can get a template!

SSFTA Spring BBQ & Potluck - 5/3/14

The sky is clear, the birds are chirping, and if you look real hard, the hills in the foothills are green! It must be time for the  the SSFTA Spring Barbecue and Potluck! Get your bike cleaned and your favorite side dish prepared for our BBQ potluck on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Lake Ming! Look for the club booth near the campground entrance, where we had our October Halloweenie Roast.

We will start the day with two group rides rolling out from the Lake Ming parking lot at 9:00am. We will have two ride leaders and sweepers for the intermediate and casual groups. The club will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks, which should all be ready by the time the two groups get back! Bring your bike, family, and your favorite side dish to share at this family friendly event!

Contact the club at if you have any questions and join the facebook event to keep up with any updates.

SSFTA Road Rides - Thursdays

We are all about cross training (or just mixing up the social fun) so come join us Thursday evenings for a road ride.  No pressure to wear spandex and go ahead and throw on that Camelback and helmet visor!  Just leave the mountain bike at home and bring/borrow something with skinny tires.  Ride starts from Thorner Elementary at 6:00 p.m. and will be lead by Eddie Gonzalez! Lights are suggested as the ride will be rolling back into the parking lot close to dusk. The route will include the bike path and back through Hart Park and will be about 20 miles long.  Route may be altered some days.  As with our mountain bike rides, no one gets dropped.

Email the club if you have any questions.
