SSFTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
NiteRider Demo Night - 12/8/14

Join the SSFTA and NiteRider for a demo night ride! Meet at Thorner School at 6:00pm on Monday, December 8th. All rider levels who are comfortable riding at night are welcome! Tommy Bryant and Kevin Talley will have NiteRider lights available to demo, so this is the best time to give night riding a try! 50 lighting systems will be available so be sure to show up early to ensure you get a light! We will be leaving Thorner at 6:00pm and do a loop around CALM on the trails. Dress warm!

STOLEN SSFTA PROPERTY

ATTENTION

The storage unit containing club merchandise and equipment was broken into between Sunday, November 9th and Monday, November 17th.  Several club items were stolen including:

  • Both SSFTA canopies
  • Both bike racks
  • Pint glasses
  • Jerseys
  • T-shirts
  • Hats
  • Financial Documents

On Tuesday, November 18th we received a call from the Bakersfield Police Department informing us that they arrested a suspect who was trying to use our club’s checks.  Other than the checks, nothing else has been recovered.  We are working with the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Department to recover our stolen items.

Please contact the Kern County Sheriff’s Department if you see our stolen items.

SSFTA Annual Pie Ride - 11/27/14

Join the SSFTA for our annual Pie ride (shamelessly stolen from the Bakersfield Track Club) at 9:00a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. We will meet at Eddie's house located on the north fence of Juliet Thorner school, Eagle Ridge St.  and we will go out on a 1:45 - 2 hr. ride. Feel free to park at Thorner!

We will have two groups beginner/intermediate. After the ride we will return back to the house for pie/sweets. Please bring a pie or pastry to share with the other riders. Coffee will be provided. Unlike most years, we will not be taking collections for "Eddie's Classroom."

You don't have to be a member to ride! Any questions feel free to call 201-7503 and be sure to join the Facebook event.

SSFTA Christmas Party - NEW DATE 12/20/14

Come celebrate the holidays with SSFTA at 6:00pm on Saturday, December 20th at the Fabrizio residence.   This is a pot luck and BYOB event.  If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, bring a wrapped gift (not to exceed $20) as well.  We will be doing the children's gift exchange again, so if you are bringing children, bring one wrapped gift per child (not to exceed $10).

Most importantly, bring yourself and enjoy the spirit of the holiday season with your fellow SSFTAers. We will have a few games to keep us entertained, so be ready for anything.

RSVP to info@ssfta.com to get the address details or join the facebook event.  Address and directions will also be provided in the member newsletter.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2014.

Rio Bravo Rumble - 1/17/15

Registration for the 2015 Rio Bravo Rumble is open! Come join a huge field of runner and riders on trails that aren't typically open to the public! Grab your bike for a 15 mile ride over several types of terrain or grab your bike and a running buddy to take on the team biathlon. For our over achieving friends, feel free to take on both the run and ride on your own! Last year we had an amazing turn out of SSFTA riders and runners and this year will be no different. For more information visit the event website. Registration can be completed at active.com

View the Californian’s coverage and awesome pictures.

Last year's Rock Cobbler went through this area, so this will be a good training event for the big ride in February!

Cross Is Coming!

Get your legs ready for Bakersfield's cyclocross events this winter! SamBarn Promotions is hosting four days of racing action at Hart Park this December and January. Come cheer on your friends as they hop on their cross bikes, off their cross bikes, and back on them, lap after lap!

Bike Bakersfield's Holiday Lights Ride 12/13/14

HOLIDAY LIGHTS RIDE

Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 PM

Celebrate the holidays with us on Saturday, December 13. The Holiday Lights Ride is a fun, family-friendly bike ride through Haggin Oaks, where we enjoy some of the best holiday lights displays in Bakersfield. Meet at the fountain in front of the Marketplace. Arrive a little early to make sure your bike is ready to ride. We encourage you to decorate your bike and dress for the occasion!

Be sure to wear a helmet and equip your bike with lights. Wear layers for a comfortable ride. Due to anticipated high volume of riders, we want to emphasize common courtesy, safety, and most of all fun.

Save the date! We will still have a December full moon ride (Saturday, December 6). Details and an event flyer will be available soon, so please check back frequently.z
