There were 13 volunteers at Keyesville on Saturday. The group was made of mountain bikers, moto riders, dirtbags, BLM workers, and a tandem coupe from Ridgecrest. Remember those dudes who rode the tandem at keyesville a few years ago in pajamas? One of those dudes was out there with his wife on their new and wicked tandem Ventana! Trail maintenance is a good way to experience trails we sometimes don't have time to appreciate the awesomeness and meet new people. If you are interested in coming out to a trail day, please let me know so I can alert you of the next one. Volunteers will need to email the stewards directly to ensure they will have a lunch bag ready for them.
Volunteers worked the section of the Keyesville trail from the big rock turn around point to the the singtrack that heads towards Pearl Harbor drive by the freeway bridge. Several water bars were put in along the singletrack from the rock to the bottom of the hill. We cleared out some ruts which will make that section even faster. The team also worked along the Kern River Trail from the turn around rock down. We filled in a giant, bike eating rut, and smoothed out some switchbacks to prevent users from taking wider lines.
